Plot Synopsis of 'To The Wonder'

terrence-malick-to-the-wonder-image-ben-affleck-rachel-mcadams-slice-01

The elusive yet brilliant filmmaker Terrence Malick has been a busy man this year, working on two brand new features with all-star casts that include people like Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Cate Blanchett. However, while I was thrilled to hear that Malick is becoming so prolific as of late, we still hadn’t heard anything about the director’s “mysterious” romantic drama To the Wonder, which he shot in 2010. We knew that the film starred Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko and Javier Bardem, but next to nothing was known about the film’s plot.

TO THE WONDER, written and directed by Terrence Malick, is a romantic drama centered on Neil, a man who is torn between two loves: Marina, the European woman who came to United States to be with him, and Jane, the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown. In TO THE WONDER, Malick explores how love and its many phases and seasons – passion, sympathy, obligation, sorrow, indecision – can transform, destroy, and reinvent lives.

'Love and Honor' Trailer

Liam Hemsworth in Love and Honor trailer

Danny Mooney, actor turned director, has a new film coming out called LOVE AND HONOR and today we’re getting to see a trailer. Liam Hemsworth stars as Mickey Wright, a young soldier who is talked into going back home with his fellow soldier and BFF Peter (played by Chris Lowell) so Peter can convince his girlfriend Jane (Aimee Teegarden) to take him back. While back in the States, Mickey meets Candace (Teresa Palmer) whom he too falls in love with, the only problem is these guys have gone AWOL for love which obviously won’t end well for either of them. LOVE AND HONOR seems like a Nicholas Sparks type of film that doesn’t interest this writer in the least, but since Liam Hemsworth is attached I’m sure it will at least break even at the box office.

'For a Good Time Call' review

Lauren Miller and Ari Graynor in For a Good Time, Call

Screenwriters Lauren Anne Miller and Katie Anne Naylon borrow from a female-friendly genre for their girlfriend-centered For a Good Time, Call. They have taken the structure of a romantic comedy and applied it to a film about two female friends.

Why not? When romantic comedies work, they are efficient means of telling a story.

In For a Good Time, Call, all the elements of the genre that gave us timeless When Harry Met Sally quotes, for example, introduce their two leads in the same manner. They bond over something unexpected. They have conflict that drives them apart and then they find a way to get back together and profess love -- albeit platonic -- for one another.

In Miller and Naylon’s film, directed by Jamie Travis, our two main characters are college enemies that because of economic happenstance, are forced to become roommates 10 years after graduation in New York City. Miller is Lauren, a talented professional in the making. Only thing, our current economic climate is making it difficult for her to get a job.

The all-time greatest movie love songs disc review

MOVIE soundtracks have always heightened the experience of watching movies, especially the romance scenes.

Conversely, many songs have been turned into instant classics by framing an iconic movie scene such as Roxette’s It Must Have Been Love, a powerful ballad which intensified the on-screen romance of actors Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman.

With that in mind, Warner Music Malaysia has released a soundtrack to frame your love life with a compilation album called Movie Love Songs which features 48 of some of the all-time greatest movie love songs from the past six decades, from the 1950s until now.

This three-disc collection, with 16 songs on each disc, is now available at record stores for RM49.90. Interestingly, the singers include actress Marilyn Monroe.

A refreshing Romantic Comedy all the way from Bollywood

A welcome Friday August 24, 2012, for Bollywood movie watchers, especially middle aged ones. Two movies released August 24, 2012, include the Boman Irani-Farah Khan starrer 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi' is a break from the usual romance comedies. It is a unique and a suave comedy without traces of blunt sex or double meaning dialogues of the likes of 'The Dirty Picture' or 'Vicky Donor'. It's a great blend of the essential ingredients like romance, clean sex, wit and humor, a well crafted story and a good screenplay. Most of all, its pivotal characters are superb as matured artists. Such a clean movie is rare in today's scenario. The credit is shared by producer Sanjay Bhansali, debutant director Bela Bhansali Sehgal, Boman Irani and Farah Khan, very well supported by Daisy Irani and Shammi. The title is the commonly used proverb, meaning that Shirin Farhad have won a lottery! This is justified when two middle aged persons happen to fall for each other - a prized win of sorts!

In the movie, a 45 year old Parsi named Farhad played by Boman Irani is single and an executive in a showroom selling undergarments. He lives with his loving mother played by Daisy Irani and grandmother yesteryears actress Shammi. Boman's mother and grandmother pressurize him to marry otherwise their Parsi community will extinct. In fact, they visit homes of prospective brides but get rejected because of Boman's humble and typical job. As the luck would have it, one day, 40 year old Farah Khan enters Boman's lingerie shop and falls in love with the shy but otherwise honest man. Here's the Bollywood twist, albeit a cute one. Boman is asked by his mom to fire the secretary of the Trust that owns their flat for dismantling the overhead tank built by his late father. Incidentally, the Trust secretary is none other than his dream girl Farah. A rather odd circumstance, yet they are simply excited to be brought together again and love blossoms. Excited Boman tells his family.

25 Years Later: Dirty Dancing's Love Story Is Still Wonderful image

It was August 21 when Dirty Dancing made its way into theaters…That was the summer of 1987, when everybody called Jennifer Grey Baby, and it didn't occur to her to mind. With a budget of $6 million, the film danced its way into the hearts of many a movie-goer, becoming one of the classic romantic films of the decade and a dance-focused love story that many dance movies that followed would likely aspire to be

Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, Dirty Dancing starts with a girl. A college-bound teenager living in the early '60s, who's on the verge of adulthood and ripe to fall in love as she travels to Kellermans, a Catskills resort. Jennifer Grey's Frances "Baby" Houseman is introduced to us as a sweet Daddy's girl, with good grades and an optimistic outlook on the world. "Our Baby's gonna change the world," her father tells Max. And I like to think that someday she did. But first, her eyes are opened when she she finds herself carrying a watermelon across a bridge and locking eyes with Johnny Castle, a dance instructor who dismisses her as just another spoiled, rich girl. Of course, there's more to both of them than meets the eye and the two fall in love when Johnny is tasked with teaching Baby to dance.

Baby's coming of age story is the heart of the film. And what girl couldn't identify with it on some level? Especially the good girls who believed there might be a handsome Johnny Castle out there willing to show her some moves.

Say Anything: A Retrospective

As far as romantic comedies go, “Say Anything…” is unquestionably one of the finest. Crowe’s story, about a high school underachiever by the name of Lloyd Dobler that pursues the valedictorian of his recent graduation, Diane Court, is a real swoon-worthy and charming effort. Although he was trained as a journalist, it was clear even from this one film that Crowe had a true cinematic personality. He has a tender edge and a sharp sense of humor that he imbues into every frame. Whereas most directors require grandiose circumstances and the bombastic use of strings to conjure romance, Crowe can create romance and heartbreak with the use of prop pen, as he does here. In “Say Anything….,” he benefits from his casting of the leads. John Cusack and Ione Skye, both of whom were relatively unknown at the time, have chemistry so palpable that chemistry textbooks at colleges across America quickly became obsolete.
