A decade after
Ally McBeal
ended its run, another hourlong comedy about a quirky single female
attorney is coming to Fox. In a competitive situation with three
networks bidding, Fox has landed an untitled project from the
Parenthood duo of
Jason Katims &
Sarah Watson
and Universal Television. The project is an edgy, twisted romantic
comedy set in a Chicago law firm that is centered on a single
30something attorney working at the firm. It will be written by Watson
with Katims supervising. The two will executive produce, with Katims’
head of development Michelle Lee producing.

This is the first project under the new overall deal Katims
signed with Universal TV
six weeks ago when he beefed up his production banner with the hire of
Lee. This also marks Watson’s first crack at development under the
overall deal
she inked with the studio in March. UTA-repped Watson is a co-executive producer on Katims’ NBC dramedy
Parenthood, on which she has been
since day one, rising from producer. In addition to developing, executive producing and running
Parenthood, CAA-repped Katims ran football drama
Friday Night Lights,
winning an Emmy for writing the series finale. The new project expands
the relationship between Uni TV and Fox. The studio produced Fox’s
long-running medical drama
House and is behind the network’s high-profile new comedy
The Mindy Project.
