A Little Comedy, A Little Romance with 'Love'


Love Is All You Need
As “Love Is All You Need” opens, Ida is meeting with a doctor, going over what she is planning to do after recovering from breast cancer surgery. About the same time, Philip is dodging a birthday party and the advances of his secretary at his fruit wholesaling company.

The pair seemingly have nothing in common. But her daughter is going to marry his son — at Philip’s Italian villa. So they are destined to meet. That collision, however, doesn’t take place on the Mediterranean coast. Instead, it takes place in a Copenhagen airport parking garage.

In a conventional romantic comedy, that would be “meeting cute.” But “Love Is All You Need” is far more romance than comedy, and the crash is hardly laughable. Ida has just walked in on her husband in flagrante delicto on their couch with a girl from accounting.
