Comedy Actress Rachel Dratch Gushes Over Her 'Love's Labour's Lost'



Not even Rachel Dratch’s “Saturday Night Live” killjoy Debbie Downer can dull her buzz.

The comic actress makes her Shakespeare in the Park debut Tuesday in “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” and she’s stoked.

“Oh my gosh, it’s crazy fun,” says Dratch. “My agent called me out of the blue and said that I’d been asked to be in the show.”

Dratch plays the supporting role of the scholar Holofernes in a new musical take on the Bard’s moody early romantic comedy. “It was an instant yes,” she says. “I don’t know how I got this part.”

Anyone who’s seen “SNL” alum Dratch on stage in any number of “The 24 Hour Plays,” or the political-scandal comedy “Tail! Spin!” or “Celebrity Autobiography,” has a good bead on why she’s acting alongside musical theater vets like Colin Donnell, Daniel Breaker and Rebecca Naomi Jones. Dratch is fearless, fast on her feet and reliably delivers the funny.
